UK Policing role for army.

PARATROOPERS were pelted with petrol bombs and missiles during new riot training.
Soldiers from Colchester were taught how to deal with hostile crowds - skills which could be used at home or abroad.
Troops from the town make up the nation’s emergency rapid response force and could be sent anywhere in the world to deal with problems.
But the training could also be useful within the UK to deal with any future riots and during the London Olympics - with soldiers from Colchester expected to provide support for the Games.
See the full story and pictures in Monday's Gazette.

All of which may please the average reader of the Daily Mail, but is that a good thing?
Do we want to be (possibly) policed by the army?
I'm not at all sure about this.

UPDATE:

Mind, it may be better than this sorry bunch!

  1. I'm not happy with the idea at all. Of course as you say, the Daily Mail readers will love the prospect of seeing all those guns on the street for thier safety, all the while they are complaining about children being allowed to own shotguns for sport.
