Sticks and stones.....................

Well I suppose that it was inevitable, speaking your mind is now a crime and you will be punished.

Mum arrested over My Tram Experience YouTube video locked up for "own protection"

Whether you agree with what she said or not, whether you feel that she was being unpleasant or uncouth, it would take a huge leap of faith to see this episode as anything mare than a hyperbolic rant. It is difficult to see that anyone could actually feel frightened in these circumstances and whilst some will ride the outrage bus and claim 'offence', they should be dismissed out of hand.

Remanded for her own protection is simply a crock of shit, she's been remanded as an example to the others. This type of thinking cannot be tolerated, it cannot even be challenged, as this would give it a legitimacy. I've no doubt that a whole raft of claims will now be placed alleging that the claimants are now too scared to use the tram etc and whingeing for a payout. Police and politicians will spout a whole load of weasel words about 'not tolerating this behaviour' and 'keeping us all safe'.

Personally, I'd like to see the knuckledraggers of the BTP take as seriously the racist comments and actions that take place every day on public transport by blacks, particularly targeting young white girls. Or perhaps the spitting and  abuse that is directed at white and black girls by, often middle aged as well as young, Muslims who seem to object to the way that they are dressed.

This overreaction to trivial non-crimes seems to be the way that we are heading. Soon it will be the norm, and I guess that we shouldn't we surprised - this will be as nothing compared to what you can be arrested for during the Olympics!

  1. It was a lot more than a hyperbolic rant. It was abuse directed at people because of their race. It was swearing and being racist in front of her child and other children. It was abusing people because of their race. It was disgusting.

Nobody should have to put up with that while using public transport.

  2. I was also surprised by "locked up for her own protection" When did they invent that?

  3. Senior - I am not disagreeing with you only with locking someone up on remand for the rather minor offence of being objectionable.

Banned - Prison is certainly not 'safe' for her as it has a lot of blacks in it. It's simply a message, stay in line or its off to chokey!
